A Grama Niladari attached to the 'Theravil' Division in Vishvamadu, who was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000 was further remanded till October 23 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya..
Following a complaint lodged by the complainant the Bribery Commission carried out a special raid and arrested the Grama Niladari, Subramaniam Sevanayagam, while accepting the bribe.
Investigations revealed that when the complainant went before the suspect to obtain an official letter of certifying the resident of the complainant's cousin, who is in France, the suspect had solicited a bribe of Rs. 30,000 to provide the letter.
